Child Mentoring
Today’s society is not what it once was. Increased mobility, along with changes in family dynamics, and increased work demands have left our youth in desperate need of adult role models. In fact, did you know that today, 25 percent of all children live in a home with only one parent? While these single-parent households can be loving and caring environments, children in these and other situations still require constant and reliable adult role models to help them grow and develop into contributing members of society. It is for this reason that child mentoring programs exist.
Child mentoring is a great way to adult volunteers and mentors to help kids from all different situations learn how to better communicate what they feel, get along with their peers, and to develop healthy relationships with peers and adults. These child mentoring programs work the very best when there are goals to focus on and trusting relationships can be built. Unlike programs that are solely focused on helping children stay away from drugs or get better grades, child mentoring programs that focus on the overall health and well-being of children have been shown to have much further-reaching effects. Child mentoring programs that focus more on social development and social skills will even benefit children in many more aspects of their lives. But no matter what type of child mentoring you are interested in, you can be sure that these programs are intently interested in helping benefits the lives of children and their families everywhere.
