Developing Mentoring Programs
There is no doubt that today’s society is in an almost constant state of change. And while some change is good and welcomed, recent changes in the traditional family and family structures has left many children and youth without sufficient adult leadership to help them grow into people who are contributing parts of society. Did you know that of all our children in the nation today, 25 percent of them are from a family with only one parent? And of all these children, nearly half of them will life in a single-parent home before they reach the age of eighteen. Of course, there is no way to make a blanket statement about the quality of any type of household. Single-parent homes can be just as loving and functional as homes with both parents, but many times too many children are left without an important adult role model to look up to.
This is where developing mentoring programs comes in. By developing mentoring programs, we are able to provide our children and youth with positive adult role models that they might not be able to find anywhere else. Mentoring programs are one of the best ways to ensure that children and young people have somewhere and someone to turn to when it comes to dealing with different issues in their lives. By developing mentoring programs, we can provide children with reliable ways to learn social skills and become well-rounded, healthy adults in the future.
