Mentoring Types
No matter the age of your child or children or their individual situations, they could likely benefit from a mentoring program, whether it be through their school or an independent company. And while mentoring and coaching are often referred to synonymously, there are a variety of mentoring types that you should be aware of.
One-on-one mentoring types are when a child is paired with an adult mentor to whom they can turn to for any advice, encouragement, or support. These type of one-on-one mentoring relationships can help children develop a strong sense of trust and can help them understand that there is always a trusted person that they can go to no matter what type of situation they find themselves in. To best serve the child in the one-on-one mentoring type program, it is best to have this relationship last as long as possible, such as through a child’s middle school or high school years.
Other mentoring types also include group mentoring. Just like the name suggests, group mentoring is where a group of children or youth can come together to discuss relevant issues and get advice, encouragement, and support. This type of mentoring is a great way to help children and young adults feel that they belong to a group and can help instill the values of that group into their personality.
But no matter what mentoring types you choose for your child, mentoring is an excellent way to help prepare your children for the future.
