Student Mentoring Program
A typical student mentoring program consists of a stable relationship between a student and an adult mentor over a certain period of time, usually during three or four years of high school. As part of the student mentoring program, the adult mentor provides support, guidance, and encouragement for a student who is in need of a positive role model and mentor to look up to. And while the students involved in a student mentoring program with usually be going through difficult situations, this doesn’t have to be the case. Any student can benefit greatly from a student mentoring program because the goal of these types of programs is to help students gain the necessary skills and self-confidence that they need right now and in the future.
A qualified student mentor is an adult who can have a positive influence and effect on the life of a student in needs. A mentor is someone who can successfully communicate to a student, who believes in youth, and can commit to a long-term student and mentor relationship. And because oftentimes, the adult mentor in a student mentoring program is one of a child’s only reliable adult role models, it is imperative that the role model be reliable and available for the student whenever necessary. Other necessary qualities for an adult student mentor is someone with a positive self esteem, reacts well when faced with stressful situations, is a good listener, and communicates on a level that a student can easily understand.
